About Christian Music

Christian music as we know it today as undergone many transformations and modernizations.  Up until the late 1960’s, Christian music was mainly played in Churches and could be most recognized by its distinct use of hymnals and organs.  But today, the face of Christian music can be heard on the radio, on TV, at huge rallies, and major concert halls.   Additionally, more modern instruments like electric guitars and drums are changing the way we record and listen to Christian music.  Christian music has also expanded to include a variety of styles which stretch as far as urban gospel, rock, metal and rap.  Of course, more traditional forms of Christian music such as easy listening and pop still ring true for devoted followers.

The change in Christian music preferences didn’t happen overnight, it took many years and it still evolving today.  One very influential Christian rock band was The Three Crosses, founded by Stephen Pasch and longtime friend, Ralphie Barrientos in 1994.  They had hits on Christian radio with the songs “This Is Not My Home” and “Michelangelo”, and charted two albums on the Billboard Christian music charts. The Three Crosses had 10 Top Ten hits on Christian radio.
